About this product
The Salomon Shift Alpha Boa 120 is a hard-flex alpine touring boot built for advanced skiers with narrow feet, weighing 1,750 g per boot (3,500 g the pair) and carrying a CAD 665 price point. The polyurethane shell is heat-moldable via the Custom Shell HD process, which takes roughly 10 minutes and uses thin-wall construction to bring the foot closer to the shell for a more direct feel. Integrated low-tech inserts make the boot compatible with touring bindings, while the BOA Fit System and Exobelt technology combine for micro-adjustable heel hold that reduces blisters on the ascent and sharpens power transfer on the descent. The Twinlock mechanism pairs a redesigned SkiWalk mode with a FreeSpine bar to deliver progressive alpine flex and a wide range of motion, and the PowerWedge insert further enhances mobility when unlocked. Frictionless polymer pivot bushings allow natural cuff rotation while skinning. Underfoot, a Contagrip mid-sole section and pre-mounted GripWalk pads (ISO 23223) improve traction on rocky or icy terrain. The My Custom Fit Freeride 4D Pro liner and Light2 footbed round out the fit package.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Salomon Shift Alpha BOA 120 for its impressive versatility as a do-it-all hybrid boot, handling resort laps, backcountry tours, and sidecountry terrain without needing a separate pair. The BOA Fit System earns widespread acclaim for enabling quick, precise micro-adjustments and delivering exceptional heel hold, especially when combined with the Exobelt. Downhill performance is a clear highlight, with testers noting strong edge response, progressive flex, and a damp, stable feel underfoot. The most common criticisms center on the narrow, low-volume fit (98mm last), which suits narrow feet but excludes wider ones. Some reviewers find the boot difficult to get on and off, and a few note an inconsistent flex feel, with the upper cuff feeling somewhat disconnected from the lower shell. Range of motion on the skin track is adequate but not class-leading for dedicated touring use.
