About this product

The Black Diamond Equipment Men's Fineline Stretch Shell is a fully featured rain jacket built around the brand's patented BD.dry 2.5L technology, which delivers waterproof, breathable, and windproof protection in a single-layer construction. The 100% nylon fabric incorporates stretch for improved comfort and freedom of movement, making it well suited to active use in deteriorating weather. A PFC-free DWR finish adds an environmentally conscious layer of water repellency. The regular fit hood is sized to accommodate a climbing helmet, while adjustable cuffs and hem allow a customized seal against the elements. Underarm gussets further support mobility, and a DWR-treated underarm zipper provides on-the-go ventilation. The center front zipper uses a YKK Aquaguard construction for reliable weather resistance. When not in use, the jacket packs into its own right-hand pocket, which includes a carabiner loop for easy attachment. Available in Burnt Sienna in size Small (model AP745038).

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the Black Diamond Fineline Stretch Shell for its exceptional freedom of movement, crediting the two-way stretch fabric and underarm gussets for mobility that rivals far pricier jackets. Its lightweight, packable design (around 9 to 10 ounces) is a recurring highlight, as is its solid weather resistance for light to moderate rain. The pit zips and helmet-compatible hood earn frequent approval for active use. The most common criticisms center on breathability, with testers noting a clammy feel during sustained high-output efforts or humid conditions. The trim fit can make layering difficult, and the 2.5-layer construction is flagged as less durable and long-lasting than 3-layer alternatives, making it better suited to backcountry use than everyday wear.
