About this product
The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Windstopper 0F/-18C is an expedition mummy sleeping bag engineered for serious alpine missions where wet conditions and open bivouacs demand uncompromising protection. The shell is constructed from GORE-TEX Windstopper 30D 2-layer nylon ripstop (57 g/m²), a windproof and highly water-resistant fabric that keeps 800-fill goose down dry and lofting even in severe mountain weather. The 15D nylon ripstop lining (34 g/m²) keeps interior weight minimal, and the bag packs down to just 17 by 9.5 inches (43 by 24 cm), with a compressed volume of 11.3 liters in the regular size and 12.1 liters in the long. The EN comfort rating sits at 13F/-11C, with a limit rating of 0F/-18C. Thoughtful construction details include vertical side-wall baffles for maximum loft, a shaped draft collar, an oversized down-filled face gasket, a contoured footbox, and an anti-snag zipper with a glow-in-the-dark pull. The regular size accommodates users up to 72 inches (183 cm) tall, while the long fits up to 78 inches (198 cm). Both a nylon compression sack and a mesh storage sack are included.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Mountain Hardwear Phantom Windstopper 0F for its exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio, with multiple testers confirming it performs at or beyond its 0F rating in real-world conditions. The 850-fill-power down, mummy cut, draft collar, and face gasket are frequently highlighted as key contributors to its thermal efficiency. Its impressively light weight and small packed size for a 0F bag are recurring points of admiration. The Gore-Tex Windstopper shell earns specific praise for wind and moisture resistance, making it well-suited for open bivouacs and severe alpine conditions. The most common complaints center on the narrow, restrictive fit that some find uncomfortable, a zipper prone to snagging on the draft tube fabric, and a very thin shell that requires careful handling to avoid tears. The high price is also noted as a barrier, though most reviewers consider it justified for the performance level.
