About this product
The Patagonia R1 Ultralight Hoodie is a technical fleece layer built for high-output activities like climbing, constructed from 4.6-oz 100% recycled polyester flat-faced double knit that weighs just 280 g (9.87 oz). Its lofty, breathable weave delivers next-to-skin comfort while a smooth outer face resists abrasion, and the slim fit supports easy movement under a harness or jacket. The helmet-compatible hood adds targeted warmth without bulk, and a deep center-front zip allows rapid heat venting or full removal even with stiff shoulders or a helmet on. A unique single-panel sleeve construction routes seams away from the shoulders, reducing pressure points under a pack. Two vertical-zippered chest pockets keep small essentials accessible without adding profile, and low-profile cuffs with full wrist coverage can be pushed up easily when needed. The hem length is designed to stay tucked under a harness. Made in Viet Nam in a Fair Trade Certified factory. Care: machine wash warm, tumble dry low.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Patagonia R1 Ultralight Hoodie for its lightweight build, smooth abrasion-resistant face fabric, and excellent breathability during active use. The deep half-zip for venting and the well-positioned Napoleon chest pockets, accessible even under a harness or pack hip belt, earn repeated compliments. The hood is widely noted as a comfortable fit under a climbing helmet or shell. The most common criticism is the fit: a number of reviewers, particularly climbers, find the cut too roomy and baggy compared to the original R1 Hoody, making it feel less purpose-built for technical use. The premium price is also a recurring concern.
