About this product
The Rab Solar Eco 3 is a synthetic sleeping bag rated to -8C (20F), designed for backpacking, mountain bothies, and trekking in cool conditions. Its wide mummy shape offers extra room for a more comfortable sleep, and the left-hand zip version comes in Oxblood Red. Both the outer and lining are 20D Atmos recycled polyester ripstop (41gsm and 38gsm respectively), each treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish. The Recycled Stratus insulation, made from 100% post-consumer PET bottles, uses a dual-layer concertina blanket construction on the upper (140gsm) and a lighter 100gsm layer at the base, with offset quilting to minimize cold spots. Warmth retention is further supported by an adjustable neck baffle and an elasticated hood drawcord with cordlock. The YKK three-quarter-length zip includes an insulated baffle and an anti-snag internal guard. The Wide Regular version weighs 1,236g and packs down to 40 x 22cm, and a compression stuff sack is included.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Rab Solar Eco 3 for its impressive warmth, plush comfort, and strong sustainability credentials, with nearly all materials made from recycled sources. The synthetic Stratus insulation earns particular appreciation for retaining warmth when wet and drying exceptionally fast, making it well suited to damp or unpredictable conditions. The DWR-treated shell, adjustable hood, and internal draft collar are frequently highlighted as effective cold-weather features. Durability also draws positive comments, with long-term users reporting no signs of wear after months of regular use. The most common criticism is bulk and packability: the synthetic fill does not compress as small as down, making it less practical for lightweight backpacking. Some cold sleepers note the temperature rating feels optimistic below around -5C, and the mummy cut can feel restrictive for those who move around while sleeping.
