About this product
The North Face Trail Lite 3 is a three-person backpacking tent built around an X-tent design that uses symmetrical, pre-bent poles and clip attachments to simplify setup without sacrificing interior comfort. The symmetrical layout and ample peak height open up living space, while two oversized doors and two spacious vestibules make entry and gear storage genuinely practical for a group of three. The rainfly is constructed from 20D Nylon Ripstop with a 1200mm PU coating and a non-PFC durable water-repellent finish, and the floor steps up to 75D Polyester with a robust 5000mm PU coating for ground-level moisture protection. All seams are sealed, and guylines on the fly align with the pole architecture to handle heavy rain and wind. The 9.5mm aluminum pole set keeps the structure rigid yet packable. Inside, organization pockets and ceiling pockets accommodate headlamps, tablets, and small essentials. The tent is made without flame-retardant coating and includes a storage bag for transport.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Trail Lite 3 for its quick, intuitive setup, crediting the X-tent pole system and clip design for making pitching easy even solo after a long day on the trail. Interior space and headroom are frequently highlighted as standout strengths for a tent in this weight class, and the two vestibules earn repeated compliments for gear storage. Build quality and weather resistance also draw positive remarks, with users noting it holds up well in rain and wind. The most common criticism is the high mesh-to-fabric ratio: the nearly all-mesh inner makes the tent feel cold in temperatures around 50 degrees Fahrenheit even with the rainfly fully closed, making it better suited to warm-weather use. Weight (around 5.5 lbs) is flagged by backpackers as a drawback compared to lighter competitors at a similar price, and a few users find the attached pole design slightly finicky.
