About this product
The Black Diamond First Light 2.0 Stretch Hoody is a four-season insulated midlayer built for high-output alpine and backcountry pursuits. Its shell is a 20D Nylon Stretch Ripstop treated with a PFAS-free DWR finish (100% Nylon, 47gsm), backed by a 44gsm Nylon Stretch Woven lining that supports breathability and freedom of movement. The core insulation is 60gsm PrimaLoft Gold Active (100% Polyester), a migration-resistant fill that maintains warmth without sacrificing breathability during intense efforts. Underarm gussets and the stretch construction encourage a full range of motion across rock, snow, and trail. The adjustable hood is compatible with climbing helmets, and the jacket stuffs into an internal chest pocket fitted with a carabiner clip loop for easy harness attachment. Two concealed-zip hand pockets, a low-profile single-adjust hem, and mapped insulation across the body, shoulders, and arms round out a practical feature set. Fabric carries bluesign approval, and the garment fits true to size.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Black Diamond First Light 2.0 Stretch Hoody for its impressive warmth-to-weight ratio, excellent breathability during high-output activities, and outstanding freedom of movement thanks to its stretch lining and gusseted underarms. The PrimaLoft Gold Active insulation earns repeated compliments for keeping wearers warm even in subzero conditions without causing clamminess. The helmet-compatible hood, packable design, and versatility as both a midlayer and standalone outer piece are also frequently highlighted. The most common criticism is durability, with several users reporting noticeable pilling of the outer fabric after limited use. The high price point is another recurring concern, and a few reviewers note the jacket falls short in very cold, static conditions where a bulkier insulator would be needed.
