About this product
The Black Crows Freebird Xpore Pants are built around the demands of ski touring, pairing a clean exterior aesthetic with serious technical performance. The shell is constructed from a PFC-free, three-layer Xpore mechanical stretch fabric made from 58% recycled polyester and 42% polyester, earning a rain protection rating of 4 with fully seam-sealed construction. Breathability is rated at 2, reflecting the fabric's focus on weather protection over high-output ventilation, though zippered side-leg openings provide on-demand airflow via YKK water-repellent zippers. The waist adjusts via Velcro tabs and accommodates a belt, while the thigh features both external YKK-zipped pockets and a hidden lycra jersey pocket. Stretch snow gaiters with an elastic silicone support band and adjustable flap keep snow out at the boot interface, and lower leg reinforcements add durability where abrasion is most likely. A yellow interior lining with chevron-patterned seam tape adds a subtle design contrast to the otherwise understated exterior.

What people are saying
Reviewers and editors consistently praise the Black Crows Freebird Xpore Pants for their strong waterproofing, high breathability, and impressively light weight, making them a well-regarded choice for ski touring and demanding backcountry use. The minimalist, touring-focused design earns appreciation, with highlights including reinforced lower legs, full side-zip ventilation with drop-seat capability, and a secure thigh pocket for keeping a phone dry. Fit is noted as true to size, which reviewers found pleasantly surprising for a European brand. The main recurring criticism is that the pants are an uninsulated shell requiring thoughtful layering on cold days, and the pocket layout (thigh-only, no hand pockets) can feel limiting for resort use.
